I wouldn’t know much about what it takes to hold on to independence in a war on healthcare between UPMC and Highmark. However, I can imagine it is incredibly difficult. It amazes me to watch our customer, Genesis Medical Associates, doing so well, turning down buy out offers, and staying true to their firm believes.
“They want to care for their patients, and they don’t want somebody else telling them how to do that,” said Mark Kissinger, Executive Director of Genesis Medical Associates Inc., one of the largest independent physician practices in Western Pennsylvania.
Patient care is important to them, and having a say in how they treat their patients is of more value than the generous offers they are getting from the bigger systems.
