Memorial Day

By Bruce Nelson

Memorial Day began as a way to remember the staggering 620,000 people who were killed during the Civil War, and is now best known as the unofficial start of the summer. I know many of you probably have fun plans with family and friends over the weekend but please take a moment to honor those who have fought and died for us.

“The courage and determination displayed in these operations were of an inspiring order”   ~ The Presidential Unit Citation to the First Marine Division

This quote and the pictures on this post are from the Battle of Guadalcanal, the first major offensive, and the first prolonged campaigns by Allied forces against the Empire of Japan. Few people had ever heard of that 2,500-square-mile speck of jungle in the Solomon Islands. But the ensuing six-month Guadalcanal campaign proved to be the turning point of the Pacific war.

Our freedoms are not free and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with our talented team and clients.  This would not be possible without the sacrifices of those men and women who died in defense of our nation.
